Identifying the correct replacement circuit board for a hot tub can be confusing. Spa manufacturers may use several different numbers on a board, and some circuit boards that look nearly identical may not be interchangeable.

Start With the Circuit Board Part Number
If the original identification sticker is still attached to the circuit board, this is usually the best place to begin.
On many Balboa circuit boards, the board part number is a five-digit number that commonly begins with a 5. Some boards also include a revision or configuration suffix.
Examples include:
- 54115
- 54115-02
Enter the number exactly as you find it into our Circuit Board Finder. The finder can help determine whether the original circuit board is still available or whether a replacement or alternative solution may exist.
What If the Circuit Board Sticker Is Missing?
It is very common for older circuit board labels to become brittle, cracked, faded, or detached after years of exposure to heat inside the spa equipment compartment.
If the original part-number sticker is missing, the board may still be identifiable by the information printed directly on its main chipset.
The chipset is one of the larger integrated circuits mounted on the board. Depending on the board, you may see several lines of letters and numbers printed on it. The identifying chipset number is generally the upper or primary set of characters.
For example, in the circuit board shown below, the chipset identification is:
LITELDR1A

Why the Chipset Number Matters
The physical circuit board itself is only part of the identification process. The programming contained on the board can determine how the spa operates, which topside control it communicates with, what equipment it controls, and which replacement boards are compatible.
This is why two circuit boards that appear identical may not necessarily be interchangeable.
When the original part-number label is missing, chipset information can provide an important clue to the board's identity.
Don't Rely on Numbers Printed on the Bare Circuit Board
Spa circuit boards can contain many different numbers. Some identify individual electrical components, manufacturing information, board revisions, or the bare printed circuit board itself rather than the complete programmed replacement board.
Because of this, not every number printed on the board is a usable replacement part number.
Before ordering a circuit board, try to locate:
- The original circuit board identification label
- The complete manufacturer part number
- Any suffix following the primary part number
- The chipset identification
- The spa control system or control-box model
- The topside control model or part number
What If Your Original Circuit Board Is Discontinued?
Many older hot tub circuit boards are no longer manufactured. In some cases, another circuit board may be a direct replacement. In other cases, there may be no compatible replacement board available.

Sometimes Replacing the Complete Spa Control System Makes More Sense

A retrofit spa control system typically replaces the original control box, circuit board, heater controls, and related control electronics as a matched system.
Depending on the existing spa configuration, a retrofit can offer several advantages:
- Modern replacement electronics
- Better future parts availability
- A new circuit board and control system
- Compatibility with newer topside controls
- A more practical solution when an obsolete board cannot be replaced
Not every hot tub is a good candidate for every retrofit system, so pump configuration, voltage, heater requirements, topside control, and available installation space should all be considered before choosing a replacement system.

Before Removing a Circuit Board
Always disconnect electrical power to the hot tub before opening the control box or touching the circuit board or other electrical components.
If you are removing the existing board for replacement, take several clear photographs before disconnecting anything. Photograph:
- The entire circuit board
- All wire connections
- Plug locations
- Dip-switch positions
- Board identification labels
- Chipset markings
- The control-box identification label
These photographs can be extremely helpful if there is any question about wiring or board identification later.
