Why Is My Hot Tub Foaming? Causes, Fixes & Prevention

4. Old Hot Tub Water

Hot tub water does not remain fresh indefinitely.

Every time the spa is used, bathers introduce contaminants. Every time water evaporates, most of the dissolved material remains behind. Every chemical addition also contributes additional dissolved material to the water.

Over time, the water becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

Foaming is often one of the first clues that the water is simply getting old.

Signs That Old Water May Be the Problem

  • Foam returns quickly after treatment.
  • Water chemistry becomes increasingly difficult to balance.
  • The water has a dull appearance even when sanitizer is adequate.

5. Low Calcium Hardness Can Contribute to Foaming
